I am an interdisciplinary political and organizational communication scholar with over 15 years of professional practice in urban and regional planning.

I use mixed methods and engaged approaches to study the practices, policies and messages of both public institutions and media organizations and their effects on learning and democratic participation, particularly in local communities. The goal of my research program is to empower people and encourage their engagement in localized processes that shape civic society.
